Beech Haven Park: Behind the Scenes

Lace up your boots for a behind the scenes hike of one of the biggest preservation projects in Athens: Beech Haven Park! Over 100 years ago, the Rowland family of Athens commissioned a series of incredible architectural achievements, including a series of elaborate bridges, pagodas, and an incredible home. Built by African-American master craftsmen Jim Glenn (carpenter) and Ike Osborn (rock mason), the architecture of Beech Haven now sits in the middle of the largest hardwood forest in Athens. Not yet open to the public, the site is currently under consideration for as 2020 SPLOST project submitted by Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation. Attendees will be given a behind the scenes tour of this incredible site. Visitors should meet in the Beech Haven Baptist parking lot by 6pm. We will then walk over for a private tour!
This event is part of the Inherit Georgia: Athens initiative (a joint effort of Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation, the Athens Historical Society, and The Georgia Trust) to encourage people 40 and under to take a role in conserving their community heritage.
